Is anybody else as focused on October 1 as we are here at Virginia Medical Plans?
Tomorrow, June 1, will start the four-month countdown to the opening of the health insurance exchanges (also known as the marketplace) created under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Staying abreast of the latest news about ACA is almost like watching a race — a months-long race to a finish line that presents us with many unknowns.
Here in our local area, Virginia will have a federal exchange, whereas the exchanges in Maryland and the District of Columbia will be state-run (or jurisdiction-run in the case of DC).
As the federal and state governments work to get the exchanges up and running, the news is full of countless stories about campaigns designed to educate the public, toolkits created to help legislators talk about ACA with their constituents, help centers set up to assist with enrollment in health plans, applications submitted by insurance carriers for approval of plans to be sold in the marketplaces, etc.
At Virginia Medical Plans, we continue to closely monitor the news and provide updates via this blog. As always, if you have any questions about your options for health insurance, give our office a call. And be sure to check out our Daily News page for daily updates from the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU).

Thinking this will be as well done as the USPS or DMV….ugh

Thanks very much for the comment Carolyn! We, too, are eager to see how things turn out. But whatever happens, we take comfort in knowing we will be ready to assist our clients — both current and new!
