Last week, President Obama met with executives from the insurance industry to discuss the impending roll-out of the health care exchange system, scheduled to occur in October of this year. Read more.
The President was not originally scheduled to attend this industry meeting, but it seems he did so to help allay industry leaders’ fears of dramatically rising premiums as the next phase of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is implemented.
Will the ACA drive premiums up as health plans need to be more comprehensive to meet the requirements under the new law? Or will the efficiency and competition of the health insurance exchange system, coupled with an influx of young, healthy, previously uninsured individuals serve to keep costs down?
Either way, it seems that both supporters and detractors of the new law are in agreement that it will be complex. “We are all in this together,” Obama was said to have told the industry leaders.
That is our message to you too. At Virginia Medical Plans we are also getting ready for October’s opening of the exchange. We continue to read and learn all that we can so we are positioned to help our clients, no matter how it all shakes out. Give us a call! We can help!
