Can I Still Get Health Insurance Effective January 1, 2015?
The answer is maybe.
Although the deadline has passed for most people to secure 1/1 coverage, an exception is made when a qualifying event triggers a special enrollment period.
One such qualifying event is the loss of minimum essential coverage.
If your current 2014 policy is a pre-Affordable Care Act (ACA)-compliant plan (one which was in force and you renewed before January 1, 2014) that coverage will no longer be offered after December 31.
Loss of this coverage counts as a qualifying event and gives you until the end of December to purchase a new ACA-compliant plan effective January 1, 2015.
(Note if you have a grandfathered plan, your coverage will not expire on 12/31 and you do not need to secure ACA-compliant coverage.)

Open Enrollment for 2015 Plans
Remember, you don’t need a qualifying event to purchase 2015 coverage during Open Enrollment. Anyone can buy a plan from now until February 15:
