With April coming to a rapid close, it seems that folks are just beginning to realize that October 1 is right around the corner!
What is the significance of October 1? It is the date the new insurance exchanges, created under the Affordable Care Act, are scheduled to open for business. It is therefore the date that an anticipated 14 million currently-uninsured Americans will begin shopping for health insurance in the exchanges — at least those who know about the change in the law!
We read with great interest an article in the New York Times detailing how the state of Michigan plans to educate its citizens about the upcoming changes. According to the article, Michigan is just a microcosm of the entire United States.
The public is largely unaware of the impact the Affordable Care Act will have on people’s lives when health insurance becomes mandatory for most individuals beginning on January 1, 2014.
