In an earlier post, we discussed the possibility that employers, in the face of increasing insurance premiums, are likely to discontinue offering health insurance coverage for their employees when the next phase of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) goes into effect in January. There are many reasons to believe that this will happen.
However, the only absolute certainty when it comes to the future of health insurance in the U.S. is that, at this point, nothing is certain! Each day brings new information which may contradict earlier reports and change our game plan going forward.
The question of employers dropping coverage is a case in point. Earlier this week, the Huffington Post reported the findings of a study by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans which suggest that “despite speculation indicating otherwise, most employers don’t plan to drop workers from their healthcare plans” as a result of ACA.
So, which will it be? Will employers drop coverage or not? While we can not be entirely certain, what we can say with certainty is that Virginia Medical Plans will continue to follow the news and will be available to help navigate whatever happens down the road.
