About Anthem Health Insurance
Anthem BC/BS is the “local Blue” for most of Virginia. The exception is certain parts of Northern Virginia* where CareFirst is the servicing “Blue.”
Anthem offers both HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) and POS (Point of Service) plans in Virginia in 2017. You can choose between bronze and silver level POS plans, and bronze, silver, and gold level HMO plans. Click here to learn about metal levels.
Anthem plans are sold both on and off the exchange. This means if you are subsidy eligible, you can buy an Anthem plan on the exchange and receive help with the premiums. Please note that the network is different for Anthem plans on exchange vs. off exchange.
It is important to check if your provider is in network for any plan you’re considering. Providers can — and do — leave networks at their discretion.
Anthem also offers dental and vision coverage.
