CareFirst Health Insurance
CareFirst BC/BS is the “local Blue” for Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the following areas of northern Virginia:
- Cities of Alexandria and Fairfax;
- Town of Vienna;
- Arlington County;
- Areas of Fairfax and Prince William Counties lying east of Route 123.
About CareFirst Individual/Family Health Plans in 2018
Virginia
There are 5 plans to choose from in Virginia in 2018 — 2 HMO (1 silver / one gold), 2 PPO (1 silver / 1 gold), and a catastrophic / young adult HMO (ages 30 and under). HSA-compatible plans are not available in Virginia in 2018.
Please note – because of the instability in the individual health insurance market, CareFirst’s silver plans sold through the exchange are MORE EXPENSIVE than the gold plans in 2018. If you are NOT subsidy-eligible in 2018, you should purchase your CareFirst health insurance directly from CareFirst. Please be in touch with us.

Catastrophic / Young Adult:

Maryland
There are 7 plans to choose from in Maryland in 2018 – 3 HMO (1 bronze / 1 silver / 1 gold), 3 PPO (1 bronze / 1 silver /1 gold), and a catastrophic / young adult HMO (ages 30 and under). Two of the bronze plans are HSA-compatible.

PPO:

District of Columbia
There are 13 plans to choose from in DC in 2018 – 6 HMO (2 bronze / 1 silver / 2 gold / 1 platinum) , 6 PPO (2 bronze / 1 silver / 2 gold / 1 platinum), and a catastrophic / young adult HMO (ages 30 and under). Four plans are HSA-compatible — 2 bronze and 2 gold.

To Apply via Exchange (VA or DC)
- To apply online for a CareFirst 2018 ON EXCHANGE plan in Virginia, click here – Enter your Zip Code and click on “See Plans and Prices” to find a plan. Enroll and secure a subsidy.
- To apply for a CareFirst policy in 2018 in DC, establish an account on DC Healthlink and then designate us as your broker (Jonathan Katz).
